Down Syndrome Creed
My face may be different
But my feelings the same
I laugh and I cry
I take pride in my gains
I was sent here among you
To teach you to love
As God in the heavens
Looks down from above
To Him I am no different
His love knows no bounds
It's those here among you
In cities and towns
That judge me by standards
That man has imparted
But this family I've chosen
Will help me get started
For I'm one of the children
So special and few
That came here to learn
The same lessons as you
That love is acceptance
It comes from the heart
We all have the same purpose
Though not the same start
The Lord gave me life
To live and embrace
And I'll do it as you do
But at my own pace

Dear Tara, thank you for visiting my blog, and I'm glad you liked the story about my cousin Ila. You have a beautiful family. I applaud your positive attitude, and I'm sure Simeon will have wonderful gifts for you through the years.
ReplyDeleteA loving home and basic material security make all the difference for a special child to grow and flower. Unfortunately, many special children in poor communities get neglected because their parents lack resources like money, space, information and time. Ila was lucky to have amazingly enlightened parents, caring siblings, and a middle-class life, but not all Indian kids are as fortunate as her. As her father often says, she was a blessing to all of us.
